Canada is a country located in the top half of North America. The country shares borders with the Pacific, Atlantic and Arctic oceans. It also boasts of having the longest coastline of any country, and sharing about 9,000km of land border with the United States. The Canadians speak both French and English making them a Bilingual Country because of their history.

From the west to the east, the provinces in Canada include British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador. Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut are the three Territories in Canada. Numbering 10 provinces and 3 territories in Canada.

It is also possible to work after you graduate. You can apply for a Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWPP) which may be issued for the length of the study program, up to the maximum of three years.

During this season, temperatures are basically below or around zero degrees Celsius. Heavy snow is common during the Novembers and Decembers. Days are usually shorter in the winter. When outdoors its important to wear insulating wears to fend off the cold and keep warm. During the Winters temperatures dangle between -5 and -15 degree Celsius. Summer times are usually warmer and sunny.

Colder regions in Canada tend to head towards the Northern parts and areas further away from large water bodies. Some regions like the Southern and coastal regions have milder weather conditions and there is more rain than snow. Temperatures come between 10 to 30 degrees Celsius.

 

Accommodation

Homestays
If you want to experience family life in Canada then Homestay is an excellent way for students to adapt to Canadian culture with host families. You would normally live, eat and share the majority of your time with your host family. Usually all meals, bills and laundry are included.

Dormitory Residence
Many universities have accommodation located on or near their campus. Room sizes vary in size and quality.  Many have shared facilities (kitchens, toilets, showers, laundry). Some universities can offer shared or private rooms. There may be the option for meals plans that can be included in the cost of the room.

House share

If you prefer a more independent living environment the many universities can assist with arrangements. Private accommodation options have kitchen facilities and are usually shared with other students. You would prepare your own meals and the cost of food is not included.

Make sure to apply for your accommodation as soon as you have chosen your university.  Demand for accommodation is also very high and availability of on-campus accommodation, (if available) may not be guaranteed.

Food

Given that Canada is a nation rich in diverse cultures, foods of various kinds form a part of the country as a result of these cultures merging in. One is bound to find a home dish and also learn to try other dishes as well.
