Here are some updates on immigration rules and regulations for students applying for colleges in Canada:
New Updates:
1. Streamlined Process: Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has introduced a streamlined process for international students applying for study permits, allowing for faster processing times and reduced paperwork.
2. Expanded List of Eligible Programs: The IRCC has added more programs to the list of eligible programs for the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), allowing more students to gain work experience in Canada after graduation.
3. Language Proficiency: Students are now required to demonstrate language proficiency in English or French, with a minimum score of 6.0 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or 7.0 in the Test d’évaluation de français (TEF). For Ghanian applicants: One must have an English Pass of at least C6 to be eligible for applications to any college or University.
4. Proof of Funds: Students are required to provide proof of sufficient funds to support themselves during their studies, including tuition fees, living expenses, and return transportation.
5. Biometric Requirements: Students from certain countries are required to provide biometric data, including fingerprints and a digital photo, as part of the study permit application process.
6. Study Permit Application Fee: The application fee for study permits has increased to CAD $150, with an additional fee of CAD $85 for biometric data collection.
7. Co-op Work Permits: Students participating in co-op programs are now required to apply for a co-op work permit, which allows them to work in Canada as part of their academic program.
8. Study Permit Renewal: Students can now renew their study permit online, making it easier to extend their stay in Canada for further studies.
Reminders:
1. Apply Early: Students are advised to apply for their study permit at least 3-4 months before the start of their program to ensure timely processing.
2. Language Proficiency Tests: Students should book their language proficiency tests well in advance, as test dates can fill up quickly.
3. Proof of Funds: Students should ensure they have sufficient funds in their bank account for at least 3-4 OR ( 20,635 CAD) months before applying for a study permit.

– September 2024/January intake is subject to IRCC Rules on Issuing Provincial attestation Letters and Deadlines and all Applicants must note that Deadline for PAL is in January 2025. All new applications afterwards will be subject to New rules from February 2025.
